Editing and Proofreading

Editing and Proofreading and its impacts in the online space

You just submitted that online work that you spent nights awake to complete it. Then after the client review, she just finds so many grammatical errors in the first paragraph of your work. As a result, she just rejects the work even before reading it all. You get notified that your work was rejected and you decide never to online writing again, you convince yourself that it is for the veterans who have been in the industry for ages. Well, guess what? You just decided not to give yourself a room to learn where you went wrong and how to correct yourself. There’s no problem without a solution.

What is Editing and Proofreading and how are they related to the above case?

In most cases, the use of the two concepts is most always interrelated and at other times, they can be used independently. When asking someone to perform proofreading on your document, it means only proofreading and it’s not accompanied by editing. Proofreading involves checking any grammatical errors, typographical errors, spelling mistakes, and or punctuation errors in your text before publishing it. On the other hand, editing comes in a variety of ways. You can edit images, videos, and or even texts. In most cases, editing goes hand in hand with proofreading. Proofreading is done on the final draft of a document before it’s published, while editing is done from the first draft to the last one before publishing.

So, what is editing? It involves the core features of writing; from checking sentence structure, alignment of your text, use of a consistent font, and or restructuring the text. The process of restructuring involves the elimination of unwanted texts, replacement of texts with other suitable ones, and or rewriting the text in a more readable manner.

How is Editing and proofreading related to the introduction case in paragraph 1 above?

It is evident, the person writing did not proofread nor edit the work before submitting it. This could have helped eliminate the possible errors in the document. It is always recommended to do so before publishing or submitting any written work, be it an official email, a message text to your professor, or any other formal writing.

The Importance of Editing and Proofreading

With the advent of technology, traditional communication has declined. Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press has also impacted greatly in the writing field. Being an integral part of writing, editing and proofreading is necessary for a smooth flow of writing. Their key role is to ensure that clarity, coherency, logical sequence, and structure of the documents are in order before publication. Digitized consumerism has made the editing and proofreading process paperless and easy to go about. Traditionally, these processes required printed manuscripts as drafts. It goes without thinking that writing is only for those who have got a degree in the field and have an awesome experience in it. But is it so? Suppose you have an idea you want to share with others in a print form, would you just simply sit down on it and say, “I am not an expert in writing, so I won’t write this. Who will even buy his time to read my book?”

You need no skills for such a task, grab that pen, draft the topic, the content, and start addressing your audience in writing. You grow the skills as you continue writing. At this level, you will require professional editors and proofreaders to review your work and correct where necessary before you get to share it with your audience. But you are just a novice in this field, so how will you find yourself these experts? This brings the concept of online professional proofreaders and editors.

The Impact of Editing and Proofreading in the Online Space

In the case above, where would you find an expert in editing and proofreading when you are just a newbie in the writing field? Well, thanks to technology you can order your lunch from your favorite restaurant while seated at the balcony of your bedroom. This is no different from acquiring editing and proofreading professionals online. Recently, companies have embraced the need to go the digital way.

The beauty of acquiring editing and proofreading services online is that you get a professional expert to do the work for you.  This is contrary to when you do it yourself because you tend to overlook the errors in your document since you only see what you intend to write. When a professional expert attends to your piece of writing, he or she can organize your work perfectly with zero or minimal errors. They ensure clarity and incisive communication at delivering the final draft for publishing. This can guarantee that your piece will attract readers.
